The mother of data-flow and block-based visual multimedia programming languages with a great community and with literally thousands of nodes. Probably not the mother, but the first really big and flexible implementation. Before there were approaches like Eyesweb or pure data with GEM extension or Max/MSP. In my view most suffered from a small amount of available functions a difficult to use user interface. Now there is the well known commercial approach Touch Designer (free as reduced and low resolution version). As open source alternative Tooll3 is available, which uses the same concept and is suitable for live use.
Lately succeeded by vvvv gamma, the very mature original (20y+), named vvvv beta is still it’s own beast to create live interactive data driven graphics. For it there is also a huge list of user contrubutions that grew over the years.
The new one, which has been entirely reprogrammed and redesigned, works slightly different and might be more flexible in certain points with it’s VL programming language and the advantage to be able to export executables for sale.
So, maybe someone can also introduce vvvv gamma at Digilog?
Both are having a great licence policy that covers the use in F.O.S.S. or non-commercial projects as beeing free as in beer. But If you have a money flow and benefit commercially, which most plan I guess, one should be fair and buy the suitable licencse for the intended use and list it in the customer’s invoice then, even if it’s the short time one only.
